BAIRAT
Bairat the highest mountain in Melghat division of the
Satpudas is situated some 9.65 km. (6 miles) from Cikhaldara, and attains to a height of 1,179.130 metres (3,866 feet) above sea-level. Former surveys gave the height as 1.281 metres (4,200) and 1.216.645 metres (3,989), respectively. On the hill in a cave is an old temple of Vairatesvar Mahadev which is said to be connected subterraneously with a temple of Devi somewhat nearer to Cikhaldara. There is also a temple of Devi on the top. It was built in 1955.
