HIGHER EDUCATION
Till the year 1957-58 there was no facility of higher education in the district. In that year one Arts and Commerce College was started at Gondia. Due to the rapid increase in the number of primary and secondary schools and the growing need of the local people for collegiate education, some new colleges were opened to provide higher education. The number of such institutions increased from 2 in the year 1961-62 to 7 in 1967-68 and the strength of students also increased by 340.58 per cent during the same period. The following table shows the progress of higher education in the district: —
