DHONDRAI
Dhondrai, with a population of 4,260 according to the 1961
Census, as a large village in Gevrai tahsil, on Gevrai-Ahmadnagar
state transport route, at a distance of 14.49 km. (nine miles)
from the tahsil headquarters. At a distance of 3.21 km. (two
miles) from the village, in the bed of the river Amruta, there is a temple of
Maruti. It is considered to be a jagrt
daivat. A story is told of this temple that a certain village
patil used to visit the Maruti temple at Khadeganv
regularly. As Khadeganv is approximately 9.66 km. (six miles) from
Dhondrai, the patil during his old age was unable to visit
it. Being pleased with the devotion of His devotee Hanuman came
and took His seat where the present temple stands. On the bank of
the same river there is yet another temple dedicated to a Devi. It
is said to be that of Tuljapur Bhavani. The temple is in the
Hemadpanti style. There is a post office at Dhondrai. A
direct bus service operates between Bid and Dhondrai, the distance
between the two being 30.58 km. (19 miles).
