MADALMOHI

Madalmohi, with a population of 4,878 in 1961 is a large agricultural village in Gevrai tahsil. It is reported that Madal and Mohi were two separate villages but once the former village was washed out owing to excessive rains. The survivors from this calamity migrated to the nearby village of Mohi and changed the name of the Mohi village to Madalmohi. It contains a temple dedicated to a certain devi (goddess) where a yatra is held on Asvin Suddha Paurnima. Nearby the temple is a tirthkund. On the outskirts of the village there is a hill called Palkhya dongar. It is supposed that on this hill, under the shade of a neem tree a disciple of Sri Ramdas Svami by name Sri Harihar performed penance and it is here that the meeting between the master and the disciple took place. The leaves of the neem tree under which Harihar used to sit are said to taste sweet. There is also an old math in the village. Madalmohi has a post office, a primary school and a subsidised medical practitioner centre. Weekly bazar is held on Tuesdays.
