SITUATION

KOLABA DISTRICT WITH A LENGTH OF ABOUT HUNDRED MILES from north to south and a breadth of from fifteen to thirty miles from east to west lies between 18° and 19° N latitude and between 70c and 1035° E longitude. It has an area of 2,715 sq. miles, and a population of 9,09,083 according to 1951 census with a density of 355 persons per square mile. It has 1,776 villages and 13 towns. Its rural population is 8,13,055 and urban 96,028.
