AGRICULTURAL SEASONS
Kharif and rabi, are the two important agricultural seasons in the district. This division is mainly based on the way in which the crops are irrigated. The crops which are taken in the early south-west monsoon are called kharif crops while those harvested in the winter arc known as rabi crops. The latter are grown with the help of irrigation and occasional fair weather showers due in November. Kharif season usually starts from June-July and ends in September-October. Kharif crops are sown from the first week of June to mid-July and harvested during the period from September to December while rabi crops are sown in November and reaped in March. Generally cereals are produced as kharif crops while wheat, some pulses, etc., are grown in rabi season. Jowar can be taken both as a kharif crop or rabi crop depending upon the system of crop rotation followed by the cultivators.
