SITUATION
ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISIONS.
SATARA AT THE WESTERN LIMIT OF THE DECCAN TABLE LAND, lies
between 16° 50' and 18° 10' North, and 73° 45' and 15° 00' East. It has an area of 4,022.6 square miles, a population of 11,75,309, according to 1951 census, with 15 towns and 1,152 villages. The following table brings out the salient features of the administrative aspects of the district:—
