PANCHAYAT SAMITIS
Eleven Panchayat Samitis have been established in Sholapur district. Every Panchayat Samiti consists of all councillors who are elected on the Zilla Parishad from the electoral divisions in the block; the co-opted councillors of the Zilla Parishad residing in the block; the chairmen of such co-operative societies conducting the business of purchase and sale of agricultural products in the block as nominated by Government (to be associate members); in case of non-availability of a woman-member or a member belonging to the scheduled castes or the scheduled tribes, one member, who is a regular resident in the block, to be co-opted by the Panchayat Samiti; and sarpanchas elected by the members of the village panchayats.
The term of the office of the chairman and members of the respective Panchayat Samitis is co-terminous. The chairman of the Panchayat Samiti is paid an honorarium of Rs. 300 with the facilities of free residential accommodation whereas the deputy chairman of the Panchayat Samiti is paid an honorarium of Rs. 150. There were eleven panchayat samitis in the district.
