PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Public administration services included those in police, Government offices and offices of quasi-Government organisations, municipalities, local bodies, etc. With the increase in the multifarious functions and shouldering of greater responsibilities by the Government, the employment in Government services has increased tremendously. According to the Census of 1951, the total number of persons employed in public administration services was 8,758. The number rose to 12,775 in 1961. The phenomenal rise in Government employment indicates the growing nature of Government activity. Of the 12,775 persons, 1,056 persons were females.
