RECREATION SERVICES
These services include the production, distribution and exhibition of motion pictures. They also include recreation services rendered by cinema houses, opera companies, ballet and dancing parties, musicians, exhibition and circus. There has been a phenomenal increase in the number of theatres and recreational services due to urbanisation. According to the Census of 1951, 762 persons were engaged in all kinds of recreation services. The number increased to 1,221 in 1961, and again decreased to 904 in 1971. The following statement shows the details regarding the number of persons engaged in recreation services in 1961 in Sholapur district:-

The 1971 Census includes cultural services in recreational services and records the number of persons as 904, of which 625 are employed in urban centres. In all, there are 324 establishments in the district rendering these services, of which 167 are located in urban areas, and the remaining 157 in the rural areas of the district.
