DUDHANI
Located in 17°05' north latitude and 76°15' east longitude, Dudhani is a municipal town in Akkalkot taluka. It has a population of 6,726 souls as per the Census of 1971. It is a railway station on the Sholapur-Raichur broad gauge section of the South-Central railway. Wells form the main source of water-supply to the town. It has a post and telegraph office. Primary schools conducted by the Zilla Parishad and a high school known as Shri Siddheshwar High School provide educational facilities to the town populace. Private medical practitioners and a municipal ayurvedic dispensary cater to the preventive and curative health needs of the people. A weekly market which is also a cattle market is held at Dudhani on every Tuesday.
Municipality: The municipal council was established at Dudhani in the year 1910. It is now governed under the Maharashtra Municipalities Act, 1965. The municipality covers an area of about 35 acres or 10.2 square miles. The municipal council has not constituted any committee except the standing committee. The chief officer is the executive head of the municipality.
For public convenience the municipality has constructed a vegetable market at a cost of Rs. 24,000. It also conducts a library known as Basaveshwar library. The municipality maintains a dispensary which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 22,000. The municipal office is housed
in its own building constructed at a cost of Rs. 50,000. The municipality conducts one ayurvedic dispensary also. A veterinary sub-centre is maintained by the Zilla Parishad, municipality making no contribution towards the expenditure incurred upon the same. Underground drainage system has not been introduced in the town. There are kutcha drains and the municipality has made arrangement for carrying away the night-soil. At present wells form the main source of water-supply. However the construction of the water-supply scheme on 50 per cent grant and 50 per cent loan from the Life Insurance Corporation of India has commenced and expected to be completed within the next few years. Primary education is made compulsory in the town and is managed by the Zilla Parishad, the municipality making contribution equal to 5 per cent of the total letting value to the Zilla Parishad. The total length of roads in the municipal area is four miles, of which two miles are metalled and two miles are unmetalled. The cremation and burial grounds are outside the municipal limits and are maintained by the respective communities.
Objects: The only objects of interest in the town are the temple of Siddheshwar and a dargah of Sayyad Kabradi. Two annual celebrations, a fair and an urus are held in the town. The fair is held in honour of god Shri Siddheshwar in January. An urus is held in honour of Sayyad Kabradi on 12th of the month of Zilkad of Fasli year. On each of the occasions more than four thousand people assemble.
