POLITICAL REPRESENTATION
In the Parliamentary Election of 1971 Sholapur district had two Parliamentary constituencies, both of which were represented by the Congress Party. In the 1972 elections to the State Assembly there were thirteen constituencies; all of them were represented by the Congress Party.

Of the 6,76,594 total votes, the Congress Party secured 3,85,783 votes. The Peasants' and Workers' Party stood second and secured 1,04,274 votes, while the Independent members claimed 99,215 votes.
